‘I got up to go to the washroom…’ -Prithvi Shaw recounts how he received call back to the Indian T20I side
Prithvi Shaw has come back to the Indian side for the T20I series against New Zealand. He has come on the back of outstanding performances in domestic cricket which has earned him a recall into the national side. Shaw though will have to wait for his chance as India are going to open with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill.
He scored 379 in a Ranji Trophy game for Mumbai. He said he played his natural game and did not do anything extra or put himself under pressure the day he smashed a wonderful triple-century in the Ranji Trophy. He believed he could go all the way and that after he reached a century and a double century he did not give up and kept pushing himself. He was disappointed when he could not get to 400.

I really worked hard for the call up- Prithvi Shaw on getting back into the Indian side
It has been long that I wasn’t a part of this team but I am happy to be back and everyone, my dad, they were happy as well. I really worked hard for the call up so really happy. The team was announced late at night, I think around 10.30 pm. When I got to know, I was sleeping and my phone was on silent. I got up to go to the washroom and I saw my phone and there were lots of calls and messages. My phone was getting hanged. I was like, what happened. Then I saw that I got selected for the T20s,” he said, when he talked about his experience on how he felt when he got a call back.
The right-handed batter’s forte in T20s has been that he can play the big shots early on in his innings and this will in turn put the bowler under pressure. Shubman Gill struggled to get off to a good start in the power play against Sri Lanka in his debut T20I series. Gill had scored just 58 runs in three innings with his highest score of 46 coming in one innings in the three-match series.
Shaw has played one T20I game for India. When it comes to the Indian T20 League, he has scored 1588 runs at an average of 25.22 but at a superb strike rate of 147.44. He has got twelve half-centuries and has the highest score of 99 to his name. He will be looking to play a vital role for Delhi in the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League.
