On Thursday, the India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha claimed that nothing can done ‘forcefully’ if a player doesn’t want to play domestic cricket. Furthermore, he added that domestic cricket is the foundation and every player must appreciate it. Wriddhiman Saha’s statement came after Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not part of the annual contract players list.

On Wednesday Indian Cricket Board stated that both the cricketers ‘were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations’. “That is the Indian Cricket Board’s decision and the personal decision of the concerned players. Forcefully, you can’t do anything,” Saha said about Kishan and Iyer’s axe.

Both the players were part of the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Ishan Kishan left the Indian squad in the middle of the South Africa tour. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer played the first two Test matches against England before getting dropped for the last three Test matches. Wriddhiman Saha expressed that players should play each match with the same priority.

“Whenever I am fit I play, even I played club matches, office matches as well. I always treat a match as a match. All matches are equal for me. If every player thinks on those lines, they will only prosper in their career and it will be better for Indian cricket as well,” he said.

Wriddhiman Saha praises Dhruv Jurel

Wriddhiman Saha also lauded the young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel for his batting performance. Dhurv Jurel who made his debut in the third Test match against England scored 46 runs followed by 90 runs and 39 runs in the fourth Test match against England. He was also awarded with Player of the Match award.

“I have never seen him (Jurel) in domestic cricket, even in Test matches I have seen in his highlights. But his batting is outstanding, he won the last Test for the team,” he said.

Saha also believes that the future of Indian cricket is bright because of its bench strength. “It is always good to see that your reserve bench is ready, whenever somebody is getting a chance,” he added
