Former India opener Murali Vijay made some sensational confessions about his career as an India player. Vijay played his last Test for India in Perth against Australia in 2018. The right-handed batter said that he felt he was devoid of chances to make a comeback into the Indian Team after that. He has opened up about the inferior treatment he received from the team management. He said that his career would have taken a different turn had he received more encouragement from the management.

The 38-year-old made his Test Debut in 2008 against Australia. He had spent a fair amount of time opening the innings with Virender Sehwag. Vijay said that the Delhi batter was backed more by the team management as compared to him. He said that the treatment meted out to him by the team management was questionable.

I wanted to hit the ball like Sehwag: Murali Vijay

“Consciously, I didn’t get the freedom of Virender Sehwag to be honest. Whatever Sehwag got in his life, I didn’t. If I could have got that kind of backing and open-spreaded talks, I could have also tried. The honest thing is the team’s backing and how you can contribute to the team in international level. It’s a high-level competition and you don’t have many chances to experiment different ways.” He said to WV Raman in an interaction on Sportstar.

He then talked about what it was like to bat at the top of the order with Sehwag. He said that the presence of Sehwag at the crease made it difficult for him to bat naturally and he wanted to hit the ball like him. “When Sehwag was there, I felt controlling my instincts and playing was hard but to see him go through that kind of freedom was something spectacular.

“Only he could have done that. Nobody else I feel could have played like Sehwag. What he did for Indian cricket was amazing. Different… he is something else which I have seen visually. I had the privilege to interact with him. It was so simple. He kept his mantra so simple – See the ball and hit. He was in that mode; singing songs to 145-150 kph bowlers. You are experiencing something else. It’s not normal,” he added.
