How can India still qualify for the Test Championship final in England?

India recorded big wins in Nagpur and at Delhi where they won by an innings and 132 runs and by 6 wickets, respectively, against Australia. With that, they took a 2-0 lead in the series. India did not look like the most dominating side and their batting had a few grey areas and India had to rely on their bowlers to get them back into the game.

In Indore, India did some harm to their Test Championship final chances by losing the third Test at Indore by 9 wickets. They are now in a position where they can reach the Test Championship final if they manage to beat Australia in Ahmedabad, which is the venue for the fourth Test.

Australia, by virtue of the Indore Test win, have qualified into the Test Championship final. Australia will play their first Test Championship final and they have good amount of experience of playing in England because of playing the games in Ashes. The conditions in England will be drastically different to India. The pacers and swing bowlers will be used more in England.

The Test Championship final will be held in England in June

Now, it remains to be seen whether India will keep a green wicket to help stimulate English conditions as the Test Championship final will be held in England. But with India losing the Indore Test, it is likely that the condition could change and the probability of seeing another rank turner is high. Australia winning the Test in Indore has thrown a small spanner in the works for India.

The Test Championship will be held at the Oval in England on 7 to 11 June which will happen right after the conclusion of the Indian T20 League. India lost the last edition of the Test Championship final in 2021 when New Zealand defeated them by 8 wickets at Southampton to win the Test Championship mace.

India have been good in the Test Championship as they will look forward to making it into their second Test Championship final. India have done well in Tests in the recent past with wins over Australia in 2018 and 2021. India also won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2016-17 when it was last held in India before the 2023 edition.
