England’s number 3 batter, Ollie Pope, has been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a dislocated right shoulder. On Day 1 of the Second Test at the home of cricket, Ollie Pope dislocated his right arm in a diving attempt to stop the ball. Though England’s middle-order batter batted in both innings of the Test, the scans on Monday revealed the full extent of his injury. Pope will undergo surgery and be looked after closely by the England and Surrey medical teams regarding his rehabilitation.
“England and Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the LV= Insurance Men’s Ashes Series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week. Scans in London on Monday revealed the full extent of the injury and he will miss the rest of the summer campaign and will require surgery. He will work closely with the England and Surrey medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation,” ECB confirmed in its statement.
England and Wales cricket board also confirmed in its statement that there will be no replacement call-up for Ollie Pope. “England will not call up a replacement for the third Ashes Test, which starts at Headingley on Thursday,” said ECB in its statement. That opens up an opportunity for Dan Lawrence to play the remainder of the series at number 3 for the home side. The 25-year-old has played 11 Tests for England and scored 551 runs at an average of 29 with 4 fifty.
Ollie Pope scored 90 runs in 4 innings in Ashes 2023 at an average of 22.50. While Ollie Pope is preferred as England’s number 3 over the last year or so, it’ll be a fantastic opportunity for Daniel Lawrence to prove his mettle. In the past, Lawrence had shown promises of being a good batter. Under pressure, he will have to show his capabilities against a very good Australian bowling attack.
