Hardik Pandya’s absence from the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an ankle injury has been a topic of concern for many cricket enthusiasts. However, in the last three games, India hasn’t felt his absence too much as the team’s bowlers, especially Mohammed Shami, have been instrumental in achieving success.
As India progresses towards the semi-finals, there’s a growing apprehension among cricket fans that the team might require the services of a sixth bowler in the crucial stages of the tournament. This concern was addressed when Rahul Dravid faced questions during a press conference before India’s match with South Africa.
When asked about the need for a sixth bowler, Dravid responded with a touch of humour by playfully mentioning Virat Kohli’s bowling action. He stated, “Yes, we don’t have the 6th bowling option, but we have a wrong-footed inswinger menace whom we can back for a few overs. He was close to bowling in the last game with the crowd pushing him.” Dravid made these remarks on the eve of India’s eighth match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Notably, star batter Virat Kohli had to take over the bowling responsibilities during a game after all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya was unable to complete his over due to the injury he sustained in the match against Bangladesh last month. Since then, Kohli’s fans have eagerly awaited the moment when he would step up to the crease and bowl. They have even devised chants to encourage him, such as, “Kohli ko bowling do! Kohli ko bowling do!”

Rahul Dravid’s statement has only heightened the excitement among fans, who are now eagerly anticipating the sight of their beloved player delivering beautiful inswinging deliveries and potentially making crucial breakthroughs with the ball.
