‘Hardik’s injury was a blessing in disguise’- Fans react as Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Mohammed Shami ahead of World Cup Final

Shami is the leading wicket taker of the tournament despite playing just six games.

The highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 final is set to unfold at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad tomorrow, pitting cricket giants India and Australia in an epic showdown. This clash of titans promises to be a thrilling spectacle, with both teams boasting formidable lineups and a rich history of rivalry.

India enters the final on an unbeaten streak, having emerged victorious in all their matches throughout the tournament. Their success can be attributed to the consistent contributions of most of their players, with several having stellar performances in specific games. Australia, on the other hand, won 7 games on the bounce to book a semi-final spot where they prevailed in a closely fought encounter against the Proteas.

As such, the two best teams in the competition have rightfully earned their place in the Final, setting the stage for an unforgettable encounter. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is expected to be a cauldron of passion and excitement, with over 100,000 passionate Indian fans cheering on their team. The atmosphere is sure to be electric, adding an extra dimension to this already high-stakes contest.

Rohit showers praise on Shami

While India’s ride to the Final has been near-perfect, they did run across a problem mid-way into the tournament with Hardik Pandya being ruled out due to an ankle injury. To cope with his absence, India had to play a specialist bowler in place of the all-rounder at Number 8. Shami was the man and he performed in a way which never let the team feel the pinch of Shami’s absence. He has picked up 23 wickets in 6 games and is currently leading the wicket-taking charts.

Rohit Sharma, speaking to the media ahead of the Final, heaped a lot of praise on Shami for his sensational returns, applauding his work ethic, despite not being a part of the eleven before Pandya’s injury.

“It was tough for Shami not to play in the first half but he was supporting Siraj & other bowlers. We had communication with him & he was working very hard on his bowling”, he said.

Here’s how ‘X-verse’ reacted to Rohit’s statement:
