In the 22nd game of the Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Earlier, riding on Venkatesh Iyer‘s amazing century, KKR posted a competitive total of 185-6 in 20 overs. Although, with an amazing half-century from Ishan Kishan, Mumbai Indians registered their second consecutive victory of the season.

Earlier, after winning the toss Suryakumar Yadav, the Stand-in captain of MI opted to bowl first. His decision went well with the team as KKR were restricted to 73-3 in 8.1 overs. Pacer Camron Green clinched the first wicket as he dismissed N Jagadeeshan. Further, Piyush Chawla and Hrithik Shokheen clinched a wicket each to restrict them to 73 runs.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer along with Shardul Thakur, added 50 runs off 28 balls to rescue the visitors. Iyer, in his innings, scored 104 runs off 51 balls with the help of nine sixes and six fours. However, in the end, MI made a comeback and prevented KKR to score 4th consecutive 200+ score. Shokheen was a goto bowler for Mumbai as he clinched two wickets.

Rohit Sharma played as an Impact player

Notably, at the start of the game, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma opted out of the game and didn’t come for the toss. Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav revealed that he is on the list of substitutes and missing the playing xi due to a stomach bug. However, chasing 186, MI came out with regular openers. Rohit, along with Ishan Kishan, added quick 65 runs in just five overs and set the tone for the run chase. Ishan, in his innings, scored 58 runs off 25 balls with the help of five sixes and five fours.

In the end, an amazing batting performance from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma Mumbai clinched the game by five wickets. Suryakumar, in the innings, scored 43 runs off 25 balls, while Tilak, in his innings, scored 30 off 25 balls. They added 60 runs for the third wicket. Meanwhile, Suyash Sharma shined with the bowl for KKR as he clinched two wickets.

TBH. Other then Venkatesh no one from KKR batted well. As MI batsmen showed that Pitch was flat. Yo top of that the famed KKR spinners trio bowled poorly. Only Suyash did some damage.
