AB de Villiers has said that the Bangalore franchise has a chance of winning the Indian T20 League this year. Bangalore have not won a trophy in the 15 years that they have played in the tournament. The franchise though has made it to three Indian T20 League finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016. Bangalore recently unveiled its new jersey at Bangalore’s unbox event.
The event was graced by Virat Kohli, Ab de Villiers, Chris Gayle and de Villiers. The event was held in grandeur at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Gayle and de Villiers made it to Bangalore’s hall of fame. The jerseys of Gayle and de Villiers which are 17 and 333 were retired by the franchise. Singers Sonu Nigam and Jason Derulo performed at the event.

“I am quite excited to welcome back fans to the stadium after 3 years. It was such an exhilarating experience to practice in front of some amazing fans as part of the Bangalore Unbox. It was also thrilling to welcome back AB and Chris for their special day, and it was awesome to feel the energy,” Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis said. The South African took the franchise to a top-four finish in 2022 when he led the side.
“First of all, a big thanks to Bangalore for inducting me into the Hall of Fame. I have so many fun memories of playing at the Chinnaswamy Stadium for the Bangalore. It feels like a homecoming for me and it was a delight for me to reconnect with the team, the players and above all the fans. The Bangalore, Bangalore chant will always stay with me.” Gayle scored his legendary innings of 175 at Bangalore against Pune in 2013. Gayle scored 3163 runs for the franchise.
De Villiers has scored 5162 runs at an average of 39.70. He had a strike rate of 151.68. He has made three hundreds and 40 fifties in the Indian T20 League. De Villiers has had great memories at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He also played his hundredth Test match in Bangalore and got a lot of love from the fans.
