Gujarat Titans skipper chose to field first in their Qualifier 1 encounter against the four time champions Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday at MA Chidambaram stadium. The CSK opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway sewed another fifty-partnership.
Gaikwad scored a 36-ball fifty, while Conway was having trouble at the other end but was anchoring well. The first wicket fell in the eleventh over by Mohit’s slower delivery into the wicket. In an effort to boost the ante, Shivam Dube was dismissed for just one.
Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu both blasted sixes, but they also stumbled while trying to up the scoring rate. Moeen’s six during the final over and Jadeja’s cameo made sure CSK passed 170. Gujarat are great chasers, although this may be challenging.
Chennai Super Kings came in at 172 on a reasonably slow track. This might be a very strong total if the second innings is not affected by dew.
CSK was able to make it to the IPL championship game for the tenth time. With no dew over the field today, their total of 172 appeared to be sufficient for them. The speed of the pitch dropped down, giving their spinners grip and turn, and Jadeja as well as Theekshana performed admirably. They each scored 4/46 in 8 overs, which helped them tip the scales in their favour during the middle overs.
After eliminating Saha with the help of the new ball, Deepak Chahar returned to break GT’s back through eliminating Shubman Gill. Rashid Khan gave the cheering audience at Chepauk a scare near the end. He once more displayed excellent batting form as he dispatched some errant deliveries off Pathirana and Deshpande.
Gujarat Titans, the chase leaders, were unable to overcome the current circumstances. That is why this toss is so challenging. It would have been a very different situation if there had been dew. They will now face the winner of Eliminator which will be decided tomorrow at the M.A. Chidambaram stadium.
