In the world of cricket, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli stand tall as two of the most respected and admired players. They have been engaged in some tough rivalries on the field but their mutual respect and admiration for each other are equally noteworthy. Despite their intense rivalry, Williamson and Kohli have developed a deep friendship. They share a mutual respect’s talent, leadership qualities, and work ethic. They have often spoken about their admiration for each other in interviews. Their friendship is a testament to the fact that even in the competitive world of cricket, respect and admiration can transcend rivalries.

In a recent conversation with Star Sports, Williamson said Virat Kohli is his favourite cricketer. This admiration from another contemporary great and someone he has been frequently compared to in recent years is a significant compliment for Kohli. When asked about a cricketer he idolized during his youth, Williamson named another Indian legend, Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli’s predecessor.

A new chapter in the Kohli-Williamson rivalry taking shape?

Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson, known for their intense clashes in the 2019 World Cup semi-final and the 2021 World Test Championship Final, may face off again in the current ODI World Cup semi-finals. With India already securing a semi-final berth, New Zealand is vying for the remaining spot. If they make it, a mouthwatering India vs. New Zealand semi-final is set for November 15 at the legendary Wankhede Stadium.

This would be a rematch of the 2019 World Cup Final, and Kohli will be eager to end up on the right side of the result this time around, having endured agony on the previous occasion at Old Trafford in Manchester. Williamson on the other hand will hope for a similar result to give his side a chance of going one step further on this occasion, having come agonizingly close to World Cup glory four years back.
