Glu Mobile, developers of the hit celebrity game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, have now announced that the game is shutting down, and the server support will end on April 8, 2024.
Breaking the news to fans, Glu Mobile wrote, “I’d like to take this opportunity to share some news with you all. We’ve made the decision to sunset Kim Kardashian: Hollywood — starting today.”
As of now, the game has been removed from all app stores. Those who have already installed the game can still play and spend their remaining in-game currency, however, they will not be able to make an in-app purchase. Servers will be shutting down on April 8 leaving the game completely unplayable.
The announcement came as a surprise to its gaming community, as the game has reportedly made over $200 million since its launch in 2014. Despite being similar to many other games in the genre, it was still very successful.
While Kim was a part of the game, it was mostly an RPG game where players could become a celebrities in Hollywood. The aim was to climb the ranks to reach the top. As per reports, Kim was also greatly involved in development decisions regarding fashion choices.
Expressing her gratitude, Kim said, “I’m so grateful from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has loved and played Kim Kardashian: Hollywood in the past 10 years. This journey has meant so much to me, but I’ve realized that it’s time to focus that energy into other passions.”
“I want to thank the Glu team and the many people behind the scenes who have worked diligently on making it a success,” she further added towards the development team.
While many fans are heartbroken with the news of the game shutting down, others expressed their anger saying their money has been wasted. However, such is the case with all free-to-play live-service video games.
