India’s next assignment in Test cricket will be the in-form Australian Team who will come to play a four-match Test series for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This series will determine India’s fate in the World Test Championship finals. Whenever any series is played in India, spin has always been the taking point.

For the first Test, Mitchell Starc’s unavailability will mean that Australia might go with as many as four spin options for the first Test. When it comes to India on the other hand, Gautam Gambhir opines that the trump card for India with the ball when it comes to spin will be Kuldeep Yadav. In the 2016-17 series, the left-arm wrist spinner picked up a five-wicket haul at Dharamshala to help India win the three-match series 2-1.

India should persist with him – Gautam Gambhir

“He was always there. It’s just about his confidence. Whatever we have seen of Rohit Sharma he has that ability to give that confidence to young bowlers. Now it’s time that they should persist with Kuldeep Yadav. His bowing a lot in international cricket will be crucial in the Australia Test series. If you keep him in the sheds and don’t make him play one-day format and you suddenly bring him for the Test series, there’s going to be less bowling under his belt,” Gambhir told Star Sports.

“I feel that he should be playing every 50-over format game till the Australia Test series because he is going to be very important factor in that series. For me, he is going to be the x-factor ahead of R Ashwin, Axar Patel.” Gambhir added. Kuldeep also proved his worth in the second ODI against Sri Lanka where he returned with figures of 3-51 in his 10 overs.

Kuldeep also played the two-Test match series in Bangladesh where he picked up eight wickets in the match at Chattogram. But he was surprisingly benched at Dhaka during the second Test as the Team management felt that he would not be suited on the Dhaka pitch and they played Jaydev Unadkat instead of Kuldeep.
