Gautam Gambhir reveals Ashish Nehra’s hilarious gesture during IPL 2014

Former Indian star Gautam Gambhir was recently speaking to Smita Prakash on her ANI Podcast. The 42-year-old revealed an interesting incident that happened during the IPL 2014 season involving Ashish Nehra.

Gautam Gambhir was having a torrid time with the bat for his side Kolkata Knight Riders. The left-handed batter had scored three successive ducks in his first three games of the season. This left him contemplating if he had to drop himself for the 4^th game.

After scoring yet another duck during the IPL 2014 season, Gautam Gambhir wasn’t in the best frame of mind. Then KKR skipper recalled “Four of five guys from Delhi were sitting together at the dinner table. Ashish Nehra ordered a duck. He told me to have the duck for dinner; otherwise, I might get another duck in the next match. I tasted it, I scored one run in the next game and Nehra even messaged me after that.”

Kolkata Knight Riders had a horror start to the season in 2014 and were bottom of the points table. The first part of the tournament was played in UAE due to the Indian General Elections in 2014. Once the tournament returned to India KKR turned their form around and went on to win the tournament. This was KKR’s and Gambhir’s second IPL title in 3 years.

The former Indian star also recollected “In 2014 in Abu Dhabi, I started the IPL with three ducks in a row. I got one in the 4^th game. We had lost four out of our first five games. We were coming back to Ritz Carlton after we lost the game. Shah Rukh Khan was standing in the lobby, he asked me what was happening and I said I was thinking about dropping myself”

Shah Rukh Khan said to Gambhir “Till you are there and you want to be there, you aren’t dropping yourself”. The former KKR skipper further said “He asked me to promise him that I would play every game until I was there. I got two or three half-centuries in a row and we won in 2014. That was my only cricket conversation with him in seven years of captaincy”

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season both Shah Rukh Khan and Gautam Gambhir have been reunited. The former skipper is back in the KKR dugout as the mentor of the side after two years with LSG. One hopes there is more Gauti Magic for SRK during the IPL 2024 season.
