After much was said about India’s potential World Cup final against Pakistan it was time for India to go against England and actually make that a reality. The Rohit Sharma-led side however have failed to do that The Jos Buttler-led England side gave a masterclass in chase and thumped India by 10 wickets.

The England skipper won the toss and invited India to put runs on the board. Coming onto bat first, the India openers started in their usual meek fashion; frightened by any ball that swung a millimetre.

A lot was expected from KL Rahul, the right-hand batter who must bear the responsibility for India’s struggle in T20Is. Many had hoped for the batter to finally come good in a big match but the batter failed again. Rahul got out in a similar poor fashion in the second over itself. India skipper Rohit Sharma who continues to struggle with form put further pressure on the team with his slow innings.

It was Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya who strung up a solid partnership in the middle and brought India to a par score of 168/6. Or so they thought!

Coming onto chasing the total England made a mockery of the target and proved the run chase to be a walk in the park. India bowlers huffed and puffed but failed to get even a single England batter out. In the end, England gave a humiliating defeat to India by 10 wickets in the 20-20 World Cup semifinal.

Both openers Jos Butler (80) and Alex Hales (86) remained unbeaten and took England across the finish line with 4 overs to spare. England would not face Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup final on November 13th at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
