On Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between India and England in Vizag, India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a thunderous double century. Jaiswal scored his double century from 277 balls, leading India to a 350-plus total in the first innings. Jaiswal’s previous highest score was 171, which came on his debut against the West Indies.

Jaiswal began batting on Day 2 after going unbeaten on 179 runs the previous day. He has been India’s lone warrior since none of the other batsmen have scored more than 40 runs. Earlier on Day 1, Jaiswal was part of five 40-plus run partnerships and spent the whole day watching his colleagues walking back and forth to the pavilion. Rajat Patidar scored the second-highest total in the Indian innings with 32 runs.

Patidar was unlucky to be removed when Rehan Ahmed’s ball sprang up sharply from a good length, struck his bat handle, and slid into the stumps. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill struggled, with just Shreyas Iyer’s 27 providing short relief. Shoaib Bashir, England’s rookie spinner, took two wickets, while James Anderson and Rehan Ahmed contributed to India’s final four wickets.

Jaiswal became the third-youngest Indian to get a double century in Test cricket. Vinod Kambli, a former batter, is still the youngest Indian to have scored a double century, doing it against England in Wankhede in 1993 at the age of. Javed Miandad is the youngest double-century in Test cricket history, having achieved the feat at the age of 19 years.
