The long-awaited debut for Rinku Singh has finally arrived, as the middle-order batter is playing his first T20I for India against Ireland in Dublin. At the coin toss, captain Jasprit Bumrah declared that Rinku Singh was going to make his much-awaited National team debut.

The skipper said, “We’ll bowl first, very happy to be here. The weather looks lovely. I feel good, looking forward to playing some cricket. You realise what you were missing, very happy to be back. We expect nothing short of a fight from Ireland. As a fast bowler, I hope the pitch does something. We have two debuts – Rinku and Prasidh Krishna. Told them to just enjoy their cricket.”

Rinku Singh’s rise from rags to riches

With his outstanding performances with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), among which included hitting five sixes off the final over to defeat Gujarat Titans, Rinku managed to establish himself as one of the IPL’s most notable players. Rinku, who batted at number 6 for KKR most of the time, managed to score 474 runs aside from this particular innings. He was able to score runs rapidly thanks to his 142.16 strike rate.

India will be counting on Rinku to perform in the middle order as they prepare for the Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. The team is badly short of quality batting alternatives in that position.

Rinku had a remarkable first-class record while playing for Uttar Pradesh. He averaged 57.8 runs in 42 games and amassed 3007 runs. Based on his accomplishments in the IPL as well as domestic cricket, Rinku seems to have the capacity to handle pressure during the most difficult parts of a game and contribute to his team’s victory.
