Portugal and Uruguay locked horns in the FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar in the Group H match and both teams managed to put on a great show in the campaign that has been witnessing too many upsets, with Saudi Arabia’s being the biggest one of all.
It was not an ideal start for the La Celeste as they failed to tackle the dominance from Portugal and eventually started losing momentum initially. To add more, Uruguay failed to tackle the ball and eventually kept losing possession in quick succession, making things tougher for the team’s run in the biggest sporting event.
On the other hand, the Os Navegadores were breathing fire and kept creating opportunities as the team completely outplayed their opponents 30 minutes into the first half. Portugal were in a strong position in the points table prior to the start of the match on the back of their mighty win against Ghana in their opening encounter.
Portugal stun in FIFA World Cup 2022
Concerning the second half, the match resumed with both teams remaining at 0-0 at the stroke of the whistle. Portugal, on the other hand, looked confident of making it through to the next round, while the La Celeste looked like they were mentally absent throughout the game.
The Os Navegadores will face off against South Korea in their final group-stage match on December 2, Friday and it remains to be seen if they can carry on with the momentum in the next game as well. On the other hand, Uruguay will face Ghana and the latter would look to give the La Celeste a scare.
After toiling hard for more than 50 minutes against Uruguay, Bruno Fernandes, the Manchester United star, eventually produced the lead for Portugal in the 54th minute, silencing his critics and haters and standing up for the team when required the most. Eventually, Fernades grabbed a brace after capitalizing on a penalty in the extra time past the 90-minute mark. Portugal eventually joined Brazil and France for the Round of 16 stage on the back of Fernandes’ heroics and the team won the game against Uruguay with a scoreline of 2-0.
