The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off November 20 between Ecuador and Qatar, which the latter lost and are eventually out of the tournament on the back of their poor run. As things stand, Ecuador and Senegal locked horns in the Group A match on November 29, Tuesday and both teams put on a great fight.

To add more, in the first half, Ismaïla Sarr produced the lead for Senegal after capitalizing on a penalty in the 44th minute. However, Moisés Caicedo made a stunning comeback for Ecuador in the second half and matched the lead in the 67th minute.

Both teams kept coming up with equal chances, although it was Senegal who capitalized on the most, eventually inching closer to the 18-yard box and near the goalkeeper as well. After fighting hard for almost 20 minutes into the second half, Senegal got a breakthrough.

While many predicted that the match might as well end in a draw, Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly produced a stunning goal in the 70th minute to put his team in the lead yet again. Eventually, it was Senegal who came out on top and won the game, taking home the much-needed 3 points.

Netherlands continue dominance in FIFA World Cup 2022

On the other hand, Netherlands and Qatar locked horns in the other Group A match and it was the former who crushed the hosts, eventually winning the game 2-0 on the back of stupendous goals from Cody Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong.

To add more, while Gakpo scored the first goal for the Oranje in the 26th minute, de Jong backed his teammate and doubled the lead in the 49th minute, helping his team clinch an emphatic win and thereby, making it through to the Round of 16 stage.

With Group A getting sorted, both teams would look to make it count in the next stage and progress through to the Quarter-Finals of the ongoing multinational tournament. Qatar, the hosts, on the other hand, would hope for a turnaround in the next edition and would look to make a statement in the coming days.
