‘Faf du Plessis in yellow is an emotion’- Fans booming as Du Plessis scores first century in SA20 history
The 22nd match of the SA20 took place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg between the Joburg Super Kings and the Durban Super Giants on Tuesday. The Super Kings won the toss and invited the Super Giants to bat first. Super Giants opener Quinton de Kock was dismissed early for just 6 off 9 balls with one four to Gerald Coetzee.
Kyle Mayers made a quick 28 off 15 balls with two fours and three sixes. He was dismissed by Leus du Plooy off Maheesh Theekshana. Mathew Beetzke made 28 off 24 balls with one four and one six after Coetzee dismissed him. The Giants had valuable contributions down the order from Heinrich Klaasen who made a vital 65 off 48 balls with seven fours. Jason Holder made a lovely cameo of 28 off 12 with four fours and one six to help the Super Giants reach 178-6 in their 20 overs.
The Super Kings completed the chase on 182-2 with five balls remaining in the second innings
In the run chase, the Super Kings got off to the perfect start with Reeza Hendricks making 45 off 46 balls with four fours and two sixes before he was shown the door by Reece Topley. The star of the show for the Super Kings was skipper Faf du Plessis who made a majestic unbeaten innings of 113 off 58 balls with eight fours and eight sixes.
He played a wonderful knock and took the bowlers to the cleaners. It was a one-man show from the former South African captain, It was a wonderful combination of power-hitting and also grace and poise from du Plessis. His innings helped the Super Kings not break a sweat and finish the chase with five balls left.
Du Plooy stood at the end with du Plessis and made an unbeaten 6 off 3 balls with one four. The former South African captain finished the job for his side by hitting the winning six for his team. With knocks like these he has shown age is just a number and his form will also be great news for his Indian T20 League franchise, Bangalore.
