The third ODI between India and New Zealand took place at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Tuesday. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. India, after being put into bat, were off to a great start, courtesy of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit scored 101 off 85 balls with nine fours and six sixes, and Gill scored 112 off 78 balls with 13 fours and five sixes.

This allowed India to get to 212 after which they started losing wickets. The skipper departed with the score at 212 and then Gill departed shortly after with the score at 230 when he tried to hit a big shot off Blair Tickner and was gone. Ishan Kishan made 17 off 24 balls with one four and one six and was run out comically due to miscommunication between him and Virat Kohli.

The incident between Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan happened in the third ball of the 35th over

The incident happened between Kishan and Kohli in the third ball of the 35th over. Kishan tapped the ball straight to cover and called for a run. Virat was initially hesitant but once he committed, he never looked back and ran like the wind to get to the other end. Kishan was watching the ball and made a late decision to turn back after he had come halfway down the wicket.

It was too late when Kishan decided to turn back and slide the bat in but Kohli had already made it to the other side by then. The wicketkeeper Henry Nicholls was very sharp as he collected the ball and flicked the bails after he ran towards the stumps at the bowler’s end. In the end, miscommunication was the cause of the run-out and it looked funny when it happened.

Here is the run out in a snapshot-

Kohli made 36 off 27 with three fours and one six after he was caught off Jacob Duffy by Finn Allen. Down the order for India, there were valuable contributions from Hardik Pandya who made 54 off 38 balls with three fours and three sixes and Shardul Thakur who scored 25 off 17 balls with three fours and one six. India made 385-9 in their 50 overs.
