India is all set to host the next edition of the ODI World Cup in 2023. Right before the start of the tournament, the big talking point was whether Pakistan would come and play in the World Cup since it will be conducted in India for the first time since 2011. Former Pakistan cricketers said that if India cannot come to the Asia Cup in Pakistan then Pakistan will also not set foot in India.

However, Babar Azam has said that Pakistan are putting all their energies into doing well in the 50-over World Cup in India. Babar also talked about his team’s chances in the upcoming World Cup and sounded upbeat about Pakistan’s preparations for the Mega event. Pakistan last won an ODI World Cup in 1992 in Australia.

We have a good combination at the top – Babar Azam on Pakistan’s ODI World Cup chances in India

“We are focused on the World Cup in India and will try to put up a good show during the tournament,” “I will try to score runs alongside Mohammad Rizwan since we have a good combination at the top. But having said that it is not possible to score in every innings, which is why it is important not to depend on only two players in the team.” Babar said in an interview on Geo News.

“However, we also have other players in the team who are eager to play a match-winning role for the team on the field,” Babar also talked about how he responds to criticism. “Criticism will continue because it is not possible that everyone will speak in your favour. I always try to stay positive since it improves my level of confidence,” Babar added.

Pakistan lost their last ODI series against New Zealand at home after winning the first ODI against Karachi by 6 wickets. The Men in Green lost the second ODI to the Kiwis by 79 runs and two wickets, respectively. Pakistan have a great fast-bowling quartet with the likes of Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf Naseem Shah, who could make them a potent force as they look to get their second ODI World Cup title.
