South Africa played their best game of the ODI World Cup 2023 to beat defending champions England. This was the first game of the tournament to be played in Mumbai. There was a huge crowd which had come to watch the two teams play on a hot and humid day.

The huge crowd weren’t disappointed as the South African displayed some ruthless cricket. The win now gives South Africa six points from four games as they get their campaign back on track after the shock loss to Netherlands.

The only thing that went England’s way was the toss as Jos Buttler put South Africa into bat. That decision came to bite the English as South Africa posted 399 for 7 in their 50 overs. Ben Stokes, David Willey, and Gus Atkinson were the 3 changes for England. Reeza Hendricks came in for skipper Temba Bavuma who wasn’t feeling well.

Skipper Aiden Markram scored 42 runs before falling to Reece Topley as the English bowler also got David Miller for 5. At 243/5 the English thought they were back in the game.

Heinrich Klassen and Marco Jansen unleashed fury as they added 151 runs for the 6th wicket in just 76 balls. Heinrich Klassen battled the hot and humid conditions to score his first ODI World Cup 2023 ton off just 61 balls. Marco Jansen used the long handle to score his first ODI fifty.
