‘Don’t want to name any player…’ – Harbhajan Singh rips apart management for dropping Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian spinner, was dropped for the second Test after bagging a five-for to his name in the first Test. For the unversed, the left-arm spinner was the Player of the Match in the initial Test and made way for Jaydev Unadkat, who made a cut to the Indian squad on the back of his continued stupendous run in the domestic circuit.
Anguished by the same, the former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, claimed that the Men in Blue spinner must stop taking five-fors and added that the Indian team management is instilling fear in the player by dropping him after giving an exemplary performance for team India, time and time again.
He had to wait for more than two years: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan claimed that it would be vital for the management to explain the decision on dropping Kuldeep and clarify things. The off-spinner said that it was unwanted to drop him as the player is one of them who could serve the Indian team well for more than 8 years in future.
“I think from now on, Kuldeep should stop taking five-wicket hauls. Who knows that he might just get to play two Test matches in a row! Like last time when he got a five-for, before Chattogram Test, was against Australia in Sydney (5/99) in different conditions. He was supposed to be India’s No. 1 spinner in overseas conditions but he had to wait for more than two years to play a Test,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying.
‘Now he played after nearly two years again and has been dropped again. Would love to know the rationale. I don’t want to name any player but some of the players in the Test set-up got a long rope, up to five years. In case of Kuldeep, it seems that the duration of his security is five days,” he added.
“How does one feel safe if he gets dropped after taking eight wickets. Can he play fearless cricket when all that the team management has done is to instil fear in him? You can never perform if there is a sword hanging over your head. I only hope that Kuldeep doesn’t lose confidence because of this as he is someone who should be serving India for another good 8-10 years,” said the former Indian spinner further.
