Bangladesh and India competed against each other in the first Test that got underway on December 14, Wednesday and the KL Rahul-led Indian team pulled off a 188-run win with their mighty effort on Day 5 played on Sunday. While India had many positives to take away from the game, the rise of Kuldeep Yadav turned out to be the most discussed point of the match.

Cheteshwar Pujara stood out in both innings with his 90 and 102*, although one could argue that Shubman Gill also played a role with the bat in India’s second innings. Kuldeep managed to contribute 40-odd runs in the first innings as well, helping India to put on a mammoth total of 404 runs on the board, eventually crushing the Bangla Tigers to 150 in their first innings.

As things stand, Danish Kaneria, the former Pakistan cricketer, reviewed Kuldeep’s performances in the match and said that he was unhappy with the spinner for showing fitness issues and fatigue. Further, Kaneria opined that the left-arm spinner let him down as the former had huge expectations from Kuldeep prior to the start of the match.

On contrary, much to the delight of the Indian fans, Kuldeep bounced back on the final day to pick up a three-for and help Rahul and his men seal a hard-fought win in the first Test, to take an early 1-0 lead in the two-match series, with the second match set to get underway on December 22.

“Kuldeep Yadav let me down today. He bowled brilliantly in the first innings, picked up five wickets, and bowled with rhythm. That rhythm was nowhere to be seen today. He looked fatigued. I think there’s a slight fitness issue. When he’ll be in rhythm, he won’t allow batters to play easily because wrist spinners have a lot of variety. He can do wonders,” Kaneria was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel about the Indian left-arm spinner.

India would look to carry on with the momentum in the second match as well, given that there is a possibility of Rohit Sharma’s return as the captain of the team. It remains to be seen who from the likes of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul will make way for the veteran Indian opener.
