Rohit Sharma is currently in Andhra Pradesh. The India skipper is paying a visit to the Tirupati Balaji Temple. Rohit has roots in Vishakapatnam and his mother tongue is Telugu. The 36-year-old has had a good tour in the West Indies and led India to a 1-0 victory in the two-match Test series. In the 3-match ODI series, India won 2-1. This will be the first time Rohit will be leading India in the World Cup.
Images of Rohit with his wife Ritika, along with their daughter stormed social media where the India skipper can be seen paying a visit to the temple amid tight security. Recently Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav and others have also paid a visit to various holy temples in and around India. Maybe Rohit is looking at some divine intervention before the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
India’s next big assignment will be the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka
Rohit did not become a part of the 2011 World Cup squad when India created history on home turf in 2011. Rohit will want to do the same all these years later in front of home fans. It is going to be a well-contested tournament in India as the overseas sides have had great exposure to the conditions here. A lot of foreign superstars have also played a lot of games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). England are the defending champions in the 50-over World Cup.
India have their next assignment against Ireland. This will be a three-match T20I series where the Men in Blue will be led by Jasprit Bumrah. Then the Indian Team will fly down to Sri Lanka to play in the Asia Cup. The multilateral tournament will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Four games will be played in Pakistan and the remaining nine will be held at the Emerald Isle. India last won the Asia Cup in 2018 when it was held in the 50-over format.
The World Cup will be held in India from October 5 to November 19. England will want to defend their title in India. Ben Stokes might not play in the tournament as he has retired from ODI cricket. Jos Butler will lead the side. The tournament will be fully hosted in India and will take place in 10 venues.
