The Indian Cricket Team is playing their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023 in New Delhi. Afghanistan are the opponents as the two teams got down to action in the national capital. Jasprit Bumrah showed his class with the ball as he gave India the breakthrough early in the game.

Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and chose to bat first and went in with the same team. Rohit Sharma stated he also wanted to bat second as dew could come into play later in the game. India made one change as Shardul Thakur came in for Ravichandran Ashwin with Mohammad Shami still warming the benches.

The Indian team had beaten Australia by six wickets to commence their 2023 ODI World Cup tournament. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli had added 165 runs for the 4th wicket to win the game.

Afghanistan made a brisk start thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. The latter in particular was quick off the blocks as he went behind the Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah bowling the 7th over of the innings got the ball to move away. Zadran poked at the ball and got the edge as KL Rahul did the rest. Bumrah pointed to his skull to celebrate the wicket.

The celebration has been made famous by Marcus Rashford the Manchester United player. It was first done during the Football World Cup in 2022 and the Manchester-born player has been doing it ever since.

Ibrahim Zadran scored 22 runs from 28 balls with four hits to the fence. The two openers added 32 runs for the first wicket as they were severe on Mohammad Siraj in particular. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 21 runs from 28 balls with 3 fours and a six. The Afghan stumper was dismissed by Hardik Pandya when he was caught by Thakur while looking for a hook shot.

It was soon 63 for 3 when Shardul Thakur had Rahmat Shah out LBW for 16. The batter decided to review the decision. The third umpire saw the final part of the decision being deemed as Umpire’s call. Afghanistan lost their first game of the ODI World Cup 2023 to Bangladesh after a batting collapse.
