Delhi Capitals nearly finalise their captain for IPL 2024 – Reports
The decision of the leadership of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2024 seems to be nearly locked. Reports suggest that Rishabh Pant is likely to be the captain of the side for the 17th edition of the league. The news comes as David Warner led DC in the IPL 2023 in the absence of Pant. It is interesting to note that Warner has a better record as a captain than Pant.
For the same reason, there has been a debate over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals. However, Delhi seems to have made their decision. Reports claim that Pant joined the camp of DC to discuss the retention and release of the players for IPL 2024. If what reports suggest is to be believed, it might almost be concluded that Pant might lead DC in the IPL 2024.
Except for the captain, no other player would be involved in the decision-making of the IPL franchises. Pant was not a part of the IPL 2023, as he sustained a threatening accident while he was driving on Uttarakhand-Delhi highway in December 2022. Since then, Pant has not been in action. He was ruled out of all the series since then till now.
Rishabh Pant and David Warner – Two IPL greats
Irrespective of the captaincy, Delhi have two great players in their lineup. DC got David Warner for IPL 2022 at a cheap price of INR 6 crores. In the same season, Warner scored 430+ runs at an average of over 45, at a strike rate of close to 150. Along with Prithvi Shaw, he formed the best opening pair of the season. Even as a captain, Warner has an amazing legacy, particularly in his old franchise.
In the IPL 2016, Warner helped SRH to win their maiden title in the league. Pant, on the other hand, is a very good player as well. In 98 matches for DC, Pant has scored 2838 runs at a strike rate of 147.97. After the exit of Shreyas Iyer, Pant was named the captain of DC. In 2021 and 2022, Pant led DC in the IPL. In 2024, Pant will have to give his best to be in contention in the T20 World Cup squad.
