‘CSK ne MI ko puri tarah se hila diya’- Fans rejoice as CSK beat MI by 5 wickets at Chepauk in IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians squared off against each other at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. The coin went in CSK’s favour as they opted to bowl first. MI did not get off to the best of starts as they were tottering at 14-3. Cameron Green was castled by Tushar Deshpande for just 6 off 4 balls. Ishan Kishan perished to Maheesh Teekhshana off Deepak Chahar.  Rohit Sharma fell to Chahar by playing a very poor shot.

Then MI changed gears and took the attack to the CSK bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav made a bright and breezy 22 off 26 balls with three fours. His innings was cut short when he was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. The star of the show for MI was Nehal Wadhera who played a wonderful innings of 64 off 51 balls took give some semblance to the MI innings. The left-hander hit eight fours and one six in his innings. When he was bowled around his legs by Matheesha Pathirana, CSK siezed the initiative and dried up the runs at the back end.

Mumbai Indians could make only 139-8 in their 20 overs

Tristian Stubbs made 20 off 21 balls with two fours. But that was not enough Pathirana was sensational at the death. He was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3-15 in his four overs. CSK were excellent at the back end and kept MI down to just 139-8 in their 20 overs. Chahar and Deshpande picked up 2-18 and 2-26 in their respective spells.

In the run chase, Ruturaj Gaikwad got going straightaway. He unleashed his shots and made a quickfire 30 off 16 balls with four fours and two sixes to give CSK the perfect start. Ajinkya Rahane looked good for his 21 off 17 balls with one four and one six but he was dismissed lbw by Piyush Chawla.

Devon Conway played a mature knock of 43 off 40 balls with four fours. There were some fireworks at the end from Shivam Dube who made an unbeaten 26 off 18 balls with three sixes as CSK romped home with 14 balls to spare.
