Cristiano Ronaldo the Portugal national football team skipper has outlined his plans. The 37-year-old is in the twilight of his career and has spent most of this season on Manchester United’s bench after attempting to leave in the summer.
Ronaldo was desperate for a move as he wanted to play in the Champions League, but no concrete offers arrived from Europe. He’s currently on international duty with Portugal and accepted an award at the Quinas de Ouro ceremony on Tuesday evening.
During his speech, Cristiano Ronaldo claimed he wants to lead the national team to glory in 2024 and also stated that he also wants to make his presence felt at European Championship.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner declared: “I hope to be a part of the Federation for a few more years. I still feel motivated, my ambition is high.
“My path in the national team is not over. We have many quality youngsters. “I will be at the World Cup, and I want to be at the European Championship.”.
He told sources in an interaction: “Very good, for me. I expect Qatar could be my final World Cup. I often go on holidays there, to Qatar as well as Dubai. I am happy because for sure it will be last international tournament.”
Ronaldo won Euro 2016 with Portugal, his first major international claim on the international stage. Right before that, he’d said this winter’s showcase event in Qatar would likely be his last. Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions for United last season, but the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League with their lowest-ever points tally.
Erik ten Hag was appointed in the summer and has only started Ronaldo once in the league so far, preferring Marcus Rashford up front instead. Ronaldo did start and scored his first goal of the season against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
