Jaydev Unadkat, the left-arm pacer, is no less than a luminary when it comes to the Indian domestic circuit and the player is currently a part of the Saurashtra squad in the Ranji Trophy. It was his terrific outing in the domestic arena that earned him a comeback in the Test setup after almost a decade. Delhi and Saurashtra locked horns against each other in the Ranji Trophy 2022/23 on January 3, 2023, Tuesday.

Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, after electing to bat first, the Delhi brigade faced a tough time against Unadkat, who rattled the top order, picking a hat-trick in his first-ever over of the day. In no time, the left-armer picked a five-for, impressing all of the team members in the pavilion.

Often considered to be upbeat, Unadkat impressed everyone in the domestic circuit, knocking off the doors of the selectors and making a comeback for the Test series against Bangladesh. Although he missed the first contest, head coach Rahul Dravid made space for him in the playing XI for the second game.

The Delhi Debacle from Saurashtra Superstar

Kicking off the new year in style, Unadkat promised with his first spell picking up 6 wickets in a go, making a statement ahead of the Border-Gavaskar trophy to be played in March this year. Delhi, on the other hand, were restricted to 10/7 in no time, with five of the top seven batters scoring a duck and were reeling at 53/7 post the havoc with Pranshu Vijayran unbeaten at 15 and Hrithik Shokeen at 28.

India are in desperate need of a left-arm pacer for the upcoming four-match Test series against the Baggy Greens and Unadkat has made a strong statement, running ahead of Arshdeep Singh, who is yet to be brought in the longest format of the game. With not many options for left-arm seamers, the mighty presence of Unadkat would come as a blessing for the Indian selectors.

The Indian team will have a new selection committee, who’ll select the squad for the series against Australia and one has to agree that the tall pacer from the Saurashtra team would be a prospect, given that it is highly unlikely for Arshdeep to break into the Test setup early in his career.

As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Jaydev Unadkat’s impressive spell:
