The fourth day of the second Test between India and West Indies in Port of Spain saw Ishan Kishan scoring his maiden fifty in Test cricket. After dismissing West Indies for a score of 255, India had to score some quick runs in the second innings. As West Indies had a left-arm off-spinner in the middle, Ishan Kishan was sent up at number 4 over the likes of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Kishan came in and showed intent from the word go. Along with Shubman Gill, Kishan was involved in a 79-run partnership for the third wicket which came in just 11.2 overs. The Southpaw scored 52 runs in 34 deliveries, which included 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. It helped India to add some valuable runs in a very quick time.

‘He helped me with the bat position’ – Ishan Kishan

During the innings, one of the stills of Kishan in action showed him batting with Rishabh Pant’s bat. Kishan batted with a bat that had the sticker of SG and the short form of Rishabh Pant and his jersey number on it as ‘RP17’. The image became viral instantly and the fans started sharing them on social media and elsewhere. When asked about the same, Ishan Kishan revealed that he met Pant at National Cricket Academy and talked about batting.

Kishan said “I was at the NCA before coming here. I was practising there. Rishabh was also there for his rehab. He just got a few points for me and asked about the bat position. He has seen me play with him. We have played a lot together since under-19 days. He knows how I play, what my mindset is. He helped me a bit with the bat position. I wanted someone to tell me about my batting. It was great for him to come and chat with me. I am thankful for that”.

It is interesting to note that Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant were the opening batters for India in the 2016 under-19 World Cup. Both have been wicketkeepers for India in all formats.
