The second Test match between South Africa and India has seen a lot of action in the ongoing Day One. Ahead of the game, the home team was looking to win this game to win the series against India at home once again. On the other hand, the Asian team was looking to win to level the series. Not to forget, the Proteas have been facing the heat for selecting the second-string team for the New Zealand series.

Meanwhile, in this game, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision proved to be a horrendous one as they were bowled out for 55 runs in the first session. Mohammed Siraj took a six-wicket haul, his first in Tests. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar, who replaced Shardul Thakur took two wickets each. After the first session, the Asian team was expected to bat till the end of the day.

They started well despite losing the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal (0). At 17/1, the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together 55 runs for the second wicket. Both batters failed to make the most of their starts and the rest was on the shoulders of the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Shreyas Iyer (0) failed once again in this series.

The two-time World Test Championship finalists had an unthinkable collapse. Rahul tried to play an uppercut against Lungi Ngidi in the 33rd over of the India innings. However, the former failed and was caught by Kyle Verryenne behind the stumps. After this wicket, the team lost five more wickets for zero runs. This meant that India was bowled out for 153, leading by 98 runs. At the time of writing, the home team has amassed  49/3 with Mukesh Kumar taking two wickets and Bumrah taking one.
