David Warner’s wife Candice has come forward and raised her voice against Cricket Australia. It is to be noted that the opener was handed a lifetime ban from leadership positions for his involvement in the ‘ball-tampering’ scandal during the Cape Town Test in 2018.

According to a report by Crictracker, Steve Smith’s promotion to the position of Vice-Captain has not gone down well with the Warner family. Smith was named the vice-captain of the Australian side during the Ashes 2021-22 down under and has held that position since then. Smith was the captain of the side during the infamous Cape Town Test and was the captain during the  ‘ball-tampering’ saga.

“I think out of nine or 10 games he’s only lost one as captain,” said Candice while speaking to Triple M. “Yeah, it bothers me. I don’t like injustice, so it does bother me. My job wasn’t to question my husband, it was about supporting David at that time.”

The ‘ball-tampering’ scandal infamously known as the ‘Sandpaper gate’ shocked the entire cricketing fraternity. The incident led to Cricket Australia banning Smith and Warner for 12 months after they were found guilty. The duo also missed out on participating in the Indian T20 league in 2018 and made a comeback to professional cricket the following year in the same league.

After returning Warner made a strong comeback in the Indian T20 league 2019 as he won the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ for being the highest run-scorer of the tournament. He was also the second-highest run-scorer in the ODI world cup. While Smith had a prolific run in the Ashes scoring 774 runs, and then went on to consistently score runs in difficult conditions.

Apart from all these, CA also decided to strip Smith and Warner from their captaincy and vice-captaincy positions respectively. While Aaron Finch was named Australia’s white-ball captain, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine was appointed as the Test skipper. David Warner is currently a part of the Australian squad that is in Sri Lanka for an all-format tour.
