Thisara Perera was an underrated player in the Sri Lankan ODI setup. The spell against Afghanistan in the 2018 Asia Cup was a proof for it. Batting first, Afghanistan managed to score 249 runs in their 50 overs. Perera claimed the wickets of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The efforts of Perera went in vain, as Sri Lanka lost the match by 91 runs.
