‘Bhai ye to shuru hote hi khatam ho gaya’ – Twitter booming as India bundle out South Africa for just 99 runs
It was a dominating performance from India in the third ODI as the spinners ran riot over the South African batters and bundled them out for 99 in only 27 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was rampant with the ball, picking up four wickets in his spell. The South African batters struggled to play the spinners on this pitch.
The third ODI between India and South Africa took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. India won the toss and opted to bowl first. South Africa got off to a poor start as Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Washington Sundar early on. De Kock played a lazy cut shot to short third to give India their first wicket.
Janneman Malan tried to play himself in and he was one who wanted to stay at the crease and score runs. He did play a laborious innings of 15 off 27 balls with three fours in it. He hit a couple of fours against Mohammed Siraj, but he roared back in style to dismiss him. He bowled a quick short ball as he went for the pull shot but was caught by Avesh Khan at deep square leg. It was almost an action replay when Reeza Hendricks got out to Siraj as he played a pull shot to a ball on the leg stump but found Ravi Bishnoi at short fine leg who took it on his second grab.
South Africa were already in tatters with three wickets down and from this point on Shikhar Dhawan put the spinners in complete operation as they wreaked havoc on the South African batters. Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed Aiden Markram with a lovely tossed-up delivery that spun and turned. Sundar then got David Miller clean bowled with a full delivery that took the off stump. This gave India their fifth scalp.
Heinrich Klassen played a bright innings of 34 from 42 balls with four fours but he was dismissed by Shabaz Ahmed. Then it was the Kuldeep Yadav show as he accounted for the wicket of Andile Phehlukwayo and then the lower order batters who were Marco Jansen, Bjorn Fortuin, and Anrich Nortje. He recorded superb figures of 4-18 in his spell of 4.1 overs. The lower-order batters were trapped in his web as they struggled to read him, and they did not know what hit them. He received great support from Siraj, Sundar, and Shahbaz who picked up 2 wickets respectively from their spells.
