‘Bhai please public ko zyada security dena’ – Fans react as CAB President assures Pakistan of making elaborate security arrangements in Kolkata

The schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 was released on Tuesday. The Indian Cricket Board also said that with regard to the semi-final, it will be played in Kolkata if it is an India-Pakistan clash. Speaking on the same, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Snehasis Ganguly said that if an India-Pakistan semi-final clash takes place at the Eden Gardens, then it will be nothing less than a dream.

When it comes to the India-Pakistan group game, the match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier requested a change of venue for the India-Pakistan clash, which was later rejected by both the Cricket Governing Body and the Indian Cricket Board. Pakistan have still not confirmed their World Cup participation and have cited ‘Government clearance as the reason.

Meanwhile, talking about Eden Gardens hosting the games, Snehasis said, as quoted by NDTV, “Preparations have started. We started preparations after IPL for the World Cup. We are renovating the stadium and corporate boxes. Ground conditions are excellent. Preparations will start from July 1 for the ground. We had a meeting with our curator. Eden Gardens is ready to host the World Cup. There are some patches here and there; within the next two months, we will resolve all those issues,”

He was buoyed that the Eden Gardens wad getting to host a vital semi-final fixture come the 2023 ODI World Cup. “what we expected, what we wished for.” he added. “We tried that we get a semifinal match this time and at the last moment, we got a semifinal match at Eden,” Snehasis further said.  When it came to the pitch, Snehasis said that it would be a sporting one which would provide assistance to both bowlers and batters. He also said the Eden would yield high-scoring matches.

He also said that proper security would be provided to the fans even at the time of Durga Puja, which will take place when the World Cup is on. “Last time, also during international matches, Kolkata police managed this festival and an international match well. They cooperated with us. We are confident that matches will be carried out in a big way, with proper security and safety,” the CAB president added.
