‘Chalo realise toh hua tujhe’ – Fans react to Avesh Khan’s statement on throwing helmet during RCB game in IPL 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants had a bitter rivalry during the Indian Premier League in 2023. At the centre of one of the ugliest on-field fights in recent memory between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during a match held at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow was none other than Afghan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who picked a fight with Kohli during the match. However, in a previous game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, LSG just edged RCB. Pacer Avesh Khan threw his helmet onto the ground in celebration after scoring the winning run. After facing intense criticism, Avesh has finally issued an apology for the actions.

Avesh Khan also asserted that his performance in the 2023 IPL campaign was subpar compared to his performance during the previous two seasons. He only managed to take 8 wickets in 9 games during the season, and LSG was knocked out of the Indian Premier League 2023 after a loss in the Eliminator match-up to Mumbai Indians.

In an interview with The Indian Express, the Lucknow Super Giants pacer spoke about the helmet incident and regretted doing that. He said, “Yeh social media mein mera mahool bana rehta hai and helmet incident thoda jyada hogaya tha (People used to bash me on social media, and the helmet incident went a bit overboard). I realised later that I shouldn’t have done this. It just happened in the heat of the moment. I now feel sad that yaar yeh sab cheez nahi karna tha (I now feel that I shouldn’t have done all this).”

Avesh Khan then shed light upon his poor IPL performances. He said, “If you compare my past two IPL seasons before this one, it went the way I wanted to. However, even though the season didn’t go well as per my standard, I maintained my economy rate which is less than 10. I bowl crucial overs 4 or 5th over and later in death.”
