Years after taking retirement from international cricket, former South Africa superstar AB de Villiers wants to compete with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking in an interview, De Villiers said that if he were to make a comeback, he would aim to be the best and would enjoy competing against Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli.
“Definitely. I could still play. But the drive is not there anymore. It’s always just about being the best. I want to be the best if I come back, and I’ll want to compete with Surya and Kohli. I definitely didn’t play enough cricket towards the end of my career. I think that was the main thing. With this Impact Player, I know a lot of people are celebrating; it’s going to lengthen the careers of players.”
“To me, I could never do that. I could never just play for two or three months of the year because I want to be the best in the world, and you cannot do that if you play for three months of the year. Absolutely no chance. Yes. You can practise for nine months. But nothing compares middle practice with being out there and competing,”, he further added.
He further spoke about his experience in the last days of his career. “So, the minute that fire went off being the best in the world, I felt like, what? What am I doing? So, what exactly is going on now? It was tough the last few years in that regard as well. I felt like, you know what? I can still have my super knock here and there, but I don’t want to do that. I want to be the best.”
Notably, in his illustrious career, De Villiers has been phenomenal for South Africa. He has scored 9577 runs in 228 matches in ODIs, with 25 centuries and 53 half-centuries. Apart from that, he has scored 8765 runs in 114 matches in Tests, while in T20I cricket, he has scored 1672 runs in 76 matches.
Here is how fans react to Ab de Villiers’ comment on his retirement:

Dhoni Kohli Rohit Rahane Pujara should lear from Abd.
When he get to know that he is not have that drive 100% he retired.
But kohli n Rohit playing with poor averages from last 3 years lost all of my respect which they earned till 2019.

He was tired of being Trophy-Less in each Tournament He Played so early retirement made sense .

For me he thought he can't play 3-4 years before the next big auctions so he doesn't want to waste RCB purse else he would have played if not for the big auctions

Taking Kohli's name was just a formality for being in RCB 😂 he actually wanted to take only sky's name 🤣

That is how Kohli will retire too, he had already said that, the day he feels not excited to go out and give his 100%, he will give up the sport.
