Following India’s defeat in the World Test Championship final at The Oval last week, Rohit Sharma’s position as Team India’s Test captain is in doubt. Australia won the WTC by 209 runs and claimed the championship.

According to rumours, the administration of the team is searching for the best prospects to succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s next Test captain, and a decision would be made on the matter during the team’s trip to the West Indies in July 2023. The management is ready to use the seasoned players because some of the younger players are still recovering from injuries.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke gave his thoughts on Rohit’s future in an interview with RevSportz. He stated that Rohit has been a very successful leader and that he has his trust for future success.

“Losing a one-off final doesn’t make him a bad captain”: Michael Clarke

The 2015 World Cup winner said, “I would be keeping faith with Rohit. I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach, he looks to be as positive as he can be. He has had a lot of success as a leader. Look at his IPL record for Mumbai (Indians). Just because India didn’t win the Test World Championship doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right guy to lead India. The fact that India qualified again, they are the only team to make consecutive finals, says a lot about how they have played their Test cricket over the past four years. It is also a very important time for stability with the One-Day World Cup right around the corner.”

Then he was questioned about India’s ICC championship drought from the previous ten years and perhaps Rohit Sharma can spur them on to victory at home during the ODI World Cup later this year. According to Clarke, Rohit Sharma’s Indian squad has played some solid and consistent cricket. He pleaded with his Indian supporters to never give up and to stick with him.

The right-handed batter said, “Like I said to you, I would be keeping faith in Rohit. Since taking over as captain, he has won you a Test series against Australia at home. He has done well as a batter as well. Think of his hundred in the last series. Losing a one-off final doesn’t make him a bad captain, nor does it make India a bad team. To make consecutive finals isn’t easy. What it means is that India was the only team to play consistently well over a period of four years. To do so in Test cricket is commendable, and I would urge you to look at that as well before making any kind of judgment call.”
