Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed his post-cricket plans. In a recent public interaction, Dhoni revealed a deep-seated commitment to spend more time with the Indian Army. Dhoni, who currently leads the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, is likely to retire from the game in the upcoming years.

It’s worth noting that he holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army. While speaking at an event, Dhoni conveyed his intention to devote significant time to military service after retiring from cricket. He said, “I want to spend more time with the Army after cricket.”.

Bestowed with the honorary rank in 2011 by the Indian Army, Dhoni’s connection to the armed forces has been a longstanding aspect of his identity outside the cricketing arena. Known for his disciplined approach and leadership qualities, Dhoni’s dedication to the military reflects his commitment beyond the cricket field.

As one of the most popular and successful cricketers globally, His decision to prioritise his role in the Army post-cricket underlines his multifaceted persona. The announcement resonates with his reputation not only as a cricketing legend but also as a patriotic individual keen on contributing to the service of the nation. His plan to spend more time with the Army showcases his admirable commitment to diverse aspects of his life beyond the cricket pitch.

It’s worth noting that the 42-year-old cricketer spent more than two weeks with the Army in 2019 after taking a break from international cricket. He also faced criticism for wearing Army insignia during the 2019 ODI World Cup. Apart from Dhoni, former India batter Sachin Tendulkar also holds a significant post in the Indian Air Force.

Meanwhile, Dhoni is currently looking to lead the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. The team is looking solid after buying key all-rounders like Sameer Rizvi, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra in the recently concluded IPL mini-auction in 2024.
