The pitches of South Africa, are known for their fiery temperament and unpredictable bounce, turned the recent Test series into a batsman’s nightmare. Experienced players stumbled, scores plummeted, and wickets tumbled with alarming regularity. Yet, amidst this maelstrom of dismissals, a solitary figure stood tall, his blade carving an oasis of elegance – Virat Kohli.

Unfazed by the uneven bounce rearing off the surface, the menacing swing of the seamers, and the ever-present spectre of an unplayable delivery, Kohli amassed a masterful 172 runs across his four innings. His numbers, while impressive, fail to capture the true essence of his artistry. It was how he conquered the treacherous terrain that left fans and pundits enthralled. His precise footwork was based on minimal fuss, and his timing was immaculate as he punished loose deliveries while respecting the venom in each unplayable ball.

While others around him succumbed to the pressure, Kohli thrived in it. His calm demeanour became a beacon of unwavering resolve, and resonated through the Indian dressing room, inspiring his teammates to fight harder. His masterful performance wasn’t just about runs; it was a symphony of skill, determination, and leadership, played out on a stage where even the bravest faltered.

Sanjay Manjrekar sheds light on Kohli’s class

Virat Kohli‘s superb form left pundits and fans marvelling at his mastery. Among them was Sanjay Manjrekar, who showered Kohli with praise, declaring a “huge distance” between him and India’s next-best batsman. This glowing tribute, however, ignited memories of a contrasting, critical tweet Manjrekar made about Kohli a decade ago.

In 2012, during the Border-Gavaskar series, Manjrekar, then a commentator, questioned Kohli’s Test credentials, suggesting he “doesn’t belong here.” This past tweet resurfaced, prompting accusations of hypocrisy from fans, and highlighting the dramatic shift in his perception of Kohli. However, Manjrekar being trolled doesn’t seem right as the tweet was made more than ten years ago which is a long time during which a person is allowed to change his opinions and beliefs.
