AB de Villiers has posted a long message to all the Bangalore fans after being inducted into Bangalore’s Hall of Fame along with former teammate Chris Gayle. Gayle, de Villiers and Virat Kohli were considered as the great trinity of Bangalore.
De Villiers said that tears welled up in his eyes when he stepped into the balcony of the Bangalore dressing room. He said he could see memories unfolding in front of him. The South African said that he will be forever indebted to the Indian fans. De Villiers had received a fitting tribute in Bangalore when he played his 100th Test match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. At the unboxing event conducted by Bangalore franchie, Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers were reunited once again after a long gap.

“Tears filled my eyes when I stepped on to the balcony of our dressing room at the Chinnaswamy in front of a packed stadium. I never thought hearing the chants of ABD could beat the first time, but this time was different,” De Villiers wrote on Instagram. “It used to be adrenalin combined with an extreme hunger to please the cry out of our fans to find a way to win, this time it was a sea of emotion that filled my body as I simply felt grateful to have had my time in the arena representing a proud city, an amazing franchise and incredible teammates,” the 39-year-old said in a heart-felt letter.
The right-handed batter scored 5162 runs for the Bold Army at a strike rate of 151.68 and an average of 39.70. The South African has scored forty half-centuries and three centuries for the franchise. He had the uncanny knack of getting the franchise out of trouble in crunch situations.
His battles with Dale Steyn at the Chinnaswamy will be forever remembered. Bangalore has not won a trophy but the Bold Army has made it to three finals. They have reached the playoffs for last three seasons consecutively. Kohli quit Bangalore captaincy in 2021 and handed over the captaincy duties to Faf du Plessis. The franchise have brought in some notable faces in Reece Topley and Michael Bracewell. Bangalore will aim to break their title drought this season.
