Babar Azam to achieve a major milestone, set to become the second Pakistan batter to get to 8000 T20 runs

Babar Azam along with Mohammad Rizwan was also among the leading run-scorers in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

The Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is en route to only becoming the second Pakistan batter to get to 8000 runs in T20 cricket. Pakistan great Shoaib Malik is currently the topT20 run-scorer from Pakistan, having notched up 11698 runs from 472 matches at an average of 36.55 and a strike rate of 127.13, with as many as 71 fifties in T20 cricket.

Meanwhile, Babar has amassed 7880 T20 runs to his credit from 219 games at a strike rate of 128.08 with an average of 45.28, with six hundreds and 67 fifties. The Talisman from Pakistan has been in great form, the 27-year-old Babar has to get 120 runs more to reach the 8000-run milestone in T20s.

Mohammad Rizwan, the hard-hitting top-order wicketkeeper batter, in the meantime, is on the verge of becoming only the seventh batter from Pakistan to reach 5000 runs in T20Is. When he reaches the landmark, he will be on par with the likes of  Babar Azam Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and Kamran Akmal in the elite list of batters.

At the moment Rizwan has in his kitty 4909 runs from 187 T20 matches at a  strike rate of 126 and at an average of 41.95, with one ton and 39 half-centuries to his name. In 2021, The stylish right-hand batter became the first batter to score over 2000 runs in T20s in a single calendar year.

Mohammad Rizwan was also among the leading run-scorers along with Babar in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The two forged a strong partnership to beat India comprehensively by 10 wickets in the 2021 World Cup encounter.

Babar and Rizwan both hail from Lahore, they are now training in Dubai for the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Pakistan’s first match in the multilateral tournament is against the Rohit Sharma-led India on Sunday, 28th of August which will take place at The Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
