Australian team shows its superiority ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Australia enjoyed the good batting conditions on offer. The Pat Cummins-led side put up a massive total of 352 for the loss of 7 wickets from their full quota of overs. From the early intentions, it seemed this is going to be Australia’s plan for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup.

Four Australian batters scored half-centuries. David Warner scored fifty for a third game running. Mitchell Marsh fell four runs short of a well-deserved ODI ton when he was sent back by Kuldeep Yadav. Steve Smith was out LBW to Mohammad Siraj for 74. In-form batter Marnus Labuschagne then hit the tired Indian attack to score 72 runs off 58 balls. Jasprit Bumrah who had missed the last game picked 3 wickets. The 29-year-old was expensive as he was hit for 81 runs. Kuldeep Yadav also picked two wickets as the Indian bowlers leaked runs on a good batting track.

Chasing 353 to win, India surprised everyone with their choice of openers. Washington Sundar walked out to bat with skipper Rohit Sharma. The openers gave India a solid start with Rohit Sharma going after the bowlers. Maxwell had Sundar caught by Labuschagne to give Australia the first wicket.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma then added 70 runs for the 2nd wicket to keep India in the game. Glenn Maxwell got both the wickets to dent India’s hopes. Rohit was caught bowled for 81, while Kohli was out for 56 caught by Smith. Iyer tried to fight back with 48 but he too fell to Maxwell. The Australian ended with career-best figures of 4/40 to help his team to a win.
