Australia had ascended to the summit of Test cricket once again, dethroning India to reclaim the No. 1 ranking after a dominant 2-0 victory in the ongoing three-match series against Pakistan. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Aussies, who have displayed remarkable resilience and adaptability in the recent times.

The road to regaining the top spot wasn’t without its challenges. Australia reached the number 1 ranking last year as well but India unseated them following a string of impressive performances.

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, this side has embarked on a relentless pursuit of excellence, honing their skills and strategizing for every encounter. The team won the World Test Championship last year, defeating India in the Final and then drew an away Ashes series to retain the prized urn.

Settled team the key to rise

Australia’s ascent to the No. 1 Test ranking hasn’t been just about flashy talent or isolated match heroics. The cornerstone of their success lies in a factor often overlooked: stability. This Test unit has remained remarkably consistent, fostering a deep understanding of roles and a shared responsibility for victory. A core group of players has held its ground, weathering storms and reaping the rewards of familiarity. Mitchell Marsh may be the sole notable addition in recent years, but the likes of Smith, Warner, Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins have become seasoned veterans in their respective roles.

Australia is likely to win the ongoing 3rd Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground and that will only make their position at the top stronger. Soon, they will play a Test series against the West Indies on home soil as well. With all due respect, the tourists have not been a force to be reckoned with in the longest format of the game of late. A whitewash is on the cards barring something sensational. Hence, it is safe to say that the Aussies will occupy the top spot for a significant period.
