Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan players to show solidarity for flood victims by wearing black armbands during their game against India

Pakistan will take on  India in the second match of the Asia Cup 2022 on  Sunday, August 28th at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. All Pakistan players will put on black armbands during the game to show support and stand with the flood victims across Pakistan.

The monsoon flooding has wreaked havoc across Pakistan, and as many as 119 people have lost their lives over the past 24 hours, as per figures showcased by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority on Sunday. It is also learnt that four people from Balochistan, six from Gilgit Baltistan, 31 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 76 from Sindh had died on Saturday.

As many as 110 districts were affected by the floods, 72 districts have been marked as hit by calamities, and at least 33 million people in Pakistan have been affected due to rainfall, according to Geo News. Close to 950,000 homes have been destroyed, of which over 650,00o homes have borne partial damage.

On the cricketing side, the Pakistan cricket team, led by Babar Azam, will take on their arch-rivals in their first game of Asia Cup 2022.  The two teams last had an encounter involving each other in October 2021 during the 20-20 World Cup at the same venue and it was Pakistan that was the victors by a big margin of 10 wickets while hunting down a target of 152.

This game, being played in Dubai between the two Asian heavyweights, will be their 10th instance in T20Is and 15th overall in the competition. India has had the wood over Pakistan in both the shorter formats, leading 7-2 in T20Is and 8-5 in Asia Cups. Pakistan has won the Asia Cup title two times, and India has won it seven times.

Both teams have some marquee players absent from their last meeting as the Men in  Green have come into the Asia Cup without their ace of pace Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a right ligament knee injury, while India are without their trump card Jasprit Bumrah, who is ruled out because of a back injury.
