In an intense scene from her most recent hit movie, Animal, Rashmika Mandanna talked about slapping her on-screen husband, played by Ranbir Kapoor. Speaking about it, the actor admitted to Pinkvilla that, when the scene ended, she started crying and yelling. It also helped her that she remembered what the director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, had told her prior to the scene.

Rashmika Mandanna stated, “There was a lot of moving, so the entire sequence was shot in one take. It was unexpected. I had no idea how I was going to proceed. Sandeep advised me to simply imagine how someone might feel in this circumstance. All I can recall is this. Nothing from the action to the cut sticks in my memory. I just can’t think about it. My mind was simply blanking out.”

Rashmika Mandanna drops truth bombs:

Gitanjali, played by Rashmika, slaps her husband Rannvijay in the scene after he confesses to having an affair with Triptii Dimri’s character Zoya. Telling her that he had to learn about Zoya’s plans, so he did it. After Gitanjali slaps him, they get into a fight. It is an intense scene from the movie.

Following the dramatic scene, Rashmika revealed how she consoled Ranbir Kapoor, saying, “After the sequence, I was crying for real. I went to Ranbir after I had slapped him, was screaming, and everything was in disarray. I asked, Was that okay? Are you all right? That sequence took us half a day to complete. I loved it, and I realised then that this was the pinnacle of acting. Sequences like these are not usually written by people. I’m so happy I completed this scene and the movie. I was taken aback by who I was.”

Animal, which was helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was released on December 1. It became one of the highest-grossing films of the previous year with over ₹900 crore made worldwide. Anil Kapoor played Ranbir’s father in it as well. In the movie, Bobby Deol portrayed the antagonist, a mute gangster. The crime drama film presents a violent world against the backdrop of Rannvijay Singh’s and his father Balbir Singh’s (Anil Kapoor’s) tumultuous relationship. Some critics and viewers have criticised the movie for being savagely violent and misogynistic.
