Through his engagement in Reema Kagti’s upcoming project, Adarsh Gourav, the versatile actor renowned for his perceptive viewpoints, illuminates the peculiar dynamics of the Malegaon film industry. “Superman of Malegaon” takes viewers behind the scenes for an intriguing look into this thriving film industry. Beyond monetary rewards, Adarsh appreciates the filmmakers’ ardent devotion to their work and their sincere love of films. They are motivated to pursue their artistic endeavours by this seeming fervour.
For Adarsh Gourav, becoming a member of “Superman of Malegaon” was a priceless educational opportunity. He developed a profound grasp of the Malegaon film industry’s distinct style of filmmaking and the unflinching dedication that supports this unusual but vibrant cinematic scene after becoming fully immersed in it.
Malegaon filmmakers first made parodies of popular commercial films like Sholay, Don, and Shaan, among many others, in the 1990s. There was a gradual movement towards creating unique stories set in Malegaon. A large number of filmmakers started their own channels when the YouTube age began in the late 2000s.
Malegaon now has a large number of successful channels that produce comedic spoofs and sketches. These last for 10-15 minutes and receive millions of views. This voyage of storytelling in Malegaon has progressed from little makeshift theatres. They only screened Bollywood films to create movie spoofs and, most recently, created videos on YouTube.
It’s vital to keep in mind that these Malegaon productions are YouTube clips and reels rather than full-length feature films. Millions of people follow several of these channels on websites like YouTube and Instagram. Traditional theatres have recently started showing Bollywood entertainment from the 1990s. Only a few major venues are currently showing new Bollywood blockbusters on Fridays. After a large number of smaller theatres and video parlours closed their doors.
Adarsh says, “The filmmakers from Malegaon have a distinct style. Despite the fact that the films are distinct, they have succeeded in following a sound economic strategy and have made sizable profits. Beyond the figures, their love of film is evident, turning each project into a labour of love. The industry has mastered the skill of comprehending and presenting a cinema genre that is uniquely their own, which is how almost all of their films are profitable.”
