The West Indies beat India comprehensively by 8 wickets in the fifth T20I at Lauderhill. This meant that the Men in Maroon took the 5-match T20I series 3-2. India could get to only 165-9 in their 20 overs. It was a below-par batting show from the visitors. Barring Suryakumar Yadav who made 61 off 45 balls with four fours and three sixes. In reply, Brandon King smacked the Indian bowlers all over the park and hit an unbeaten 85 off 55 balls with five fours and six sixes.
What made headlines was Hardik Pandya’s statement that he had said earlier the India all-rounder said “If Pooran wants to hit, let him come and hit me”. Pandya was referring to Nicholas Pooran who hit two sixes off Hardik in the 5th T20I. The left-handed batter had a great series with the bat in hand for the West Indies. With scores of 41,67, and 47 in the first, third and fifth T20I, Pooran made his presence felt. The left-hander was not a part of the ODI series but was a part of the T20I squad.

When fans heard of Pandya’s statement on social media, they criticised him for being very arrogant and rude, They said that being the stand-by Indian T20I skipper, he should not show such a haughty attitude. Pandya had his fair share of struggles as he had faced a suspension along with his long-time mate KL Rahul for his statements on the widely watched talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’. “Losing is good at times. On the positive side, we have done a lot of learning. The boys showed character. Credit to them. They kept coming and tried something new. It is part of the process. It is what I feel at that moment,” He said at the post-match presentation ceremony. The fans were very disappointed with India’s performance. The West Indies side failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup in India. The Men in Marron lost matches to Netherlands, Zimbabwe and Scottland.
